About Rowan.
My aim is simple; to provide the client with well made furniture which meets their requirements, exceeds their expectations and is made with as little cost to the environment as possible. An informal discussion or two is used to get to know the client, discover exactly what they expect from the finished piece, and establish the basic design or layout. Only then are detailed plans drawn up.
Construction is carried out using traditional cabinet making techniques such as mortice and tenoned frames on all cabinets and doors, and dovetailing on drawers. Timber is obtained as locally as possible from certified sources. Finishing is all done by hand, with natural oils or the most environmentally friendly paints applied by brush.
The furniture is then delivered and if required, fitted. Fitting will be carried out with as little disturbance as possible. Please note it will not have been wrapped in acres of polystyrene and cardboard and flown halfway around the world!
In short, what I make is slow furniture. It cannot be chosen from a brochure or plucked from a shelf but it will be what you wanted and it will last you a lifetime.
